Strang Book Group is offering its specials to Christian retailers in the Virtual Christmas Showcase, an online exhibition and training event.

More than 20 suppliers have so far signed on for the Virtual Christmas Showcase--running Sept. 30-Nov. 30--hosted by Christian Retailing magazine and focused on the holiday season. In addition to highlighting products and specials, the online event also includes interviews, new release spotlights and other offers. The virtual show has drawn nearly 1,000 visitors since it began Sept. 30, with more than 3,300 page views.

Wesscott to distribute more gifts Print Email

Wesscott Marketing, known mostly for distributing DVDs, music and books, is adding more gifts to its product offerings.

Though the Minneapolis-area company has distributed planners by disabled ministry leader Joni Eareckson Tada, it is expanding its gift line to include a series of wooden crosses handcrafted domestically.

Editorial Unilit has launched an "As Seen on TV" campaign--geared to assist Christian bookstores in promoting the sale of new Spanish releases and reach customers "straight to the heart."

"Currently, Christian booksellers are facing two realities: the global economic crisis and the abundance of new releases produced each month," said Editorial Unilit Vice President for Sales and Marketing Luis Fernandez Jr. "Which book do we choose, and how do we promote it among so many new titles? Considering the needs of the Christian population, we firmly believe that ‘As Seen on TV' is the solution."

Christian video games tested in Wal-Mart Print Email

The world's largest retailer has begun carrying products by Inspired Media Entertainment, the inspirational video game company that makes games based on the "Left Behind" book series.

Beginning Oct. 12, three PC games--including Charlie Church Mouse--by the company formerly known as Left Behind Games are being offered in approximately 100 Wal-Mart stores in Dallas and Houston as well as in other Texas markets, Inspired Media officials said. The games are retailing for $19.96 and $29.96.

Thomas Nelson has announced its entry into self-publishing with the launch of WestBow Press. A partnership with Author Solutions Inc. (ASI), the new self-publishing division will solicit manuscripts for publication from new authors.

"With the creation of WestBow Press, we will be able to help more authors realize their dreams of being a published author, while discovering more diamonds in the rough to add to our roster," said Thomas Nelson CEO Michael Hyatt.

‘Concert of the Decade’ benefit raises $350,000 Print Email

More than 350 guests--along with performers including Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Casting Crowns, MercyMe, Kirk Franklin and Point of Grace--turned out for the "Concert of the Decade" earlier this week, a benefit for the threatened Gospel Music Association (GMA).

Held Oct. 12 in Nashville, the "Save the GMA" fund-raising event--which featured tickets for $1,000 each--raised more than $350,000 to help retire a $800,000 debt incurred from a past GMA Dove Awards sponsor dropout.

CBA again cuts its workforce Print Email

CBA has cut its workforce for the second time in six months, reducing the retail trade association's full-time payroll to 10.

Five positions were eliminated in the latest changes, which President and CEO Bill Anderson said were part of continuing efforts to streamline operations at the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based organization.
