Gifts of Faith--a Phoenix-based Christian product supplier--has signed a licensing agreement with Precious Moments Inc. (PMI) to design, distribute and market Precious Moments faith-based products to religious and inspirational gift industry customers. 

The agreement includes products for occasions such as first communion, confirmation and baptism. Sales to retailers are scheduled to begin in November.

The message of Don Piper's best-selling book about being brought back to life after dying and going to heaven has been adapted for a seven-week video Bible study series just released by Worthy Resources, part of Worthy Media.

At the heart of 90 Minutes in Heaven: Seeing Life's Troubles in a Whole New Light are seven 20-minute presentations featuring Piper, whose Revell (Baker Publishing Group) book has sold more than 3.5 million copies and been on best-seller charts for nearly three years.

Howard Books' repositioning includes ending a strong line for the publisher, which has been the Christian imprint of general market house Simon & Schuster since 2006.

Having just celebrated the opening of its new offices in Nashville last month, with an Open House event, the company known for its best-selling "Hugs" series among others has announced that it is ending its gift books line to focus on trade titles.

Thomas Nelson Publishers is offering a free two-day event pass to a Women of Faith conference--a $99 value--with the purchase of select premium Bibles from the Nashville-based publisher.

Nelson's 20 Bibles included in the promotion include King James Version (KJV) Signature UltraSlim and New King James Version (NKJV) Signature UltraSlim editions, KJV Signature Pocket Companion Bible, Chronological Study Bible, NKJV Study Bible: Large Print Edition, NKJV Woman's Study Bible and KJV Study Bible.

Christian publishers win ‘Best Books’ awards Print Email

Several Christian publishers' titles have been recognized with The National "Best Books" 2009 Awards, recently announced by USABookNews.com, an online magazine and book review Web site.

Two Judson Press books were among the winners. Profiles in Black: Phat Facts for Teens by Marvin A. McMickle won in the African American Studies category, while Addicted to Hurry: Spiritual Strategies for Slowing Down by Kirk Byron Jones was recognized in the Audiobook: Spiritual category.

Record turnout expected for international show Print Email

Christian Trade Association International (CTAI) is expecting a record turnout for its winter event in January. Open to overseas buyers as well as North American retailers, Marketsquare International 2010 is set for Jan. 10-12 at the Atlanta Airport Marriott in Atlanta.

"We have received more than twice as many registrations as we did last year at this point," said CTAI President Jim Powell, noting that hotel and registration costs are lower for the event than last year's show.

Christian Supply stores close in Northwest Print Email

Regional chain owned by industrialist downsizes, shuts eight locations

A regional chain in the Pacific Northwest, Christian Supply Centers (CSC) recently downsized, closing eight of its stores in September. The chain, owned by Oregon industrialist Robert Pamplin, still operates five stores in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

GunnarSimonsenJim Shelley, manager of the chain's store in Spokane, Wash., replaced former General Manager Gunnar Simonsen, who departed the company prior to the store closings. Shelley, who was not available to comment, will lead CSC with increased focus on the five remaining stores in cites such as Beaverton, Ore.; Spokane, Wash.; and Cour d'Alene, Idaho.
