Kregel Publications is offering its specials to Christian retailers in the Virtual Christmas Showcase, an online exhibition and training event hosted by Christian Retailing magazine and focused on the holiday season.

More than 20 suppliers--including Thomas Nelson International, Integrity Music and Warner Press--have so far signed on for the Virtual Christmas Showcase. Besides highlighting products and specials, the online event includes interviews, new release spotlights and other offers. The virtual show has drawn more than 1,900 visits from more than 50 countries since it began Sept. 30, with nearly 6,000 page views.

'American Idol' approach to acquisitions Print Email

Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Marcher Lord Press (MLP)--a publisher of Christian speculative fiction--is letting the public decide which book it should publish next by taking "an American Idol approach" to acquisitions.

"Marcher Lord Select is American Idol meets book acquisitions," said MLP Publisher Jeff Gerke. "We're presenting upwards of 40 completed manuscripts and letting the people decide which one should be published."

Rick Warren's new book delayed Print Email

Scheduled to release in December, Rick Warren's The Hope You Need (Zondervan) has been delayed until sometime in the first quarter of 2010, company officials said.

The new release date for the highly touted book will give the author more time to finish the manuscript, according to Karen Campbell, director of public relations for Zondervan.

Several Christian retailers are taking part in National Bookstore Day, sponsored by Publishers Weekly and scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7.

Among them is Kregel Parable Christian Store in Grand Rapids, Mich., where President Jim Kregel said that he felt it was important to support all efforts to promote local bookselling, whether specifically Christian or not.

GMA hosting fund-raising auction Print Email

The threatened Gospel Music Association (GMA) unveiled its latest fund-raising effort this week, an online auction featuring many exclusive items and experiences with its most prominent members. The 40-plus auction items include a "Christmas coffee" with Amy Grant, a recording studio visit with Michael W. Smith and an Epiphone electric guitar signed by members of MercyMe.

"We're excited that the artists are donating their time and products to support the GMA, an organization which has championed Christian music for more than 45 years," said Dan Michaels, marketing senior vice president for INO Records and co-chair of the GMA's Auction Committee.

ECPA's 'very simple' consumer book initiative Print Email

The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) has announced another Christian Book Expo (CBE)--though on a much smaller scale than the failed event at the Dallas Convention Center earlier in the year.

The organization will be promoting Christian books under the CBE banner at the 26th annual Miami Book Fair International, Nov. 8-15. ECPA staff will be selling best-sellers from around a dozen publishers at the association's booth during the closing weekend.
