Christian Retailing Update incorrectly reported in its Dec. 10 issue that CBA Interim Executive Director Curtis Riskey is a former retailer. He is owner of Basic Books and Cafe in Oshkosh, Wis., though not active in its day-to-day operations.
 
Christian authors on ‘Good Morning America’ Print Email

Authors Max Lucado, Miles McPherson, Francine Rivers and Father Edward Beck recently joined ABC's Good Morning America host Robin Roberts to tape a special segment, which will air during the show's Christmas Day episode.

Partnership encourages giving to military families Print Email

Contemporary Christian band Big Daddy Weave and K-LOVE Radio Network have launched a campaign to honor military families during Christmastime.

Influenced by "I'll Be Brave This Christmas," the new radio single from Big Daddy Weave's recently released Christ Is Come (Fervent Records/Word Distribution), the campaign seeks to celebrate and thank American soldiers by helping their families in need.

Peace on Earth by Casting Crowns supplanted the band's own Until the While World Hears (both Beach Street Records/Provident-Integrity Distribution) for the top spot of the SoundScan's Christian/Gospel music Christian retail chart for sales the week ending Dec. 6, while The Ultimate Gift (20th Century Fox Home Entertainment/Word Distribution) replaced Saint Nicholas-A Story of Joyful Giving, VeggieTales (Big Idea/Word) atop the Christian Videos list.

‘Share Christmas’ campaign going well Print Email

Crossway is halfway to its goal to see a million copies of the special-edition Share the Good News of Christmas Outreach New Testament delivered to homes nationwide this Christmas via the Christian retail channel.

By early November, more than 500,000 of the Crossway outreach materials--including a Christmas message from best-selling author Max Lucado, packaged in a white door-hanger bag with the New Testament--had been sold, according to organizers.

Group Publishing to end ‘Rev! Magazine’ Print Email

Citing the continuing recession, Group Publishing has announced that it will end publication of Rev! Magazine, initially called Vital Ministry magazine.

"For over 12 years, Rev! Magazine has provided thousands of pastors and other church leaders with practical and thoughtful articles and ideas for leadership, outreach, worship, preaching, administration, Christian education and discipleship," Group Publishing said. "However, economies and times change. For the magazine industry in general, this recession has been particularly lethal, aggravated in great part by the paradigm shift of the culture moving rapidly away from printed periodicals to digital delivery systems.

Biblical spotlight for 'Twilight' phenomenon Print Email

With vampire fever being fanned by the recent release of the second "Twilight" movie, Christian publishers have responded with titles aiming to dispel some of the shadows surrounding the trend.

Leading the way was Destiny Image, which released Kurt Bruner's The Twilight Phenomenon: Forbidden Fruit or Thirst Quenching Fantasy? in September. The author's previous works include books offering a Christian perspective on "The Lord of the Rings" and the "His Dark Materials" series.

Undaunted by the lingering recession, several pioneer booksellers have been celebrating significant milestones in Christian retailing while looking to the future.

Kregel Parable Christian Stores in Grand Rapids, Mich., observed a full century of selling evangelical books this year, while Baker Book House (BBH)--also in the same city--marked 70 years.
