Nominees for the 11th annual Christy Awards were announced today. The awards for excellence in Christian fiction will go to winners in nine categories: Contemporary Romance; Contemporary Series, Sequels and Novellas; Contemporary Stand-alone; First Novel; Historical; Historical Romance; Suspense; Visionary; and Young Adult.

Christian publishers report sales increases Print Email

Christian publishers have reported increased sales for March over the same month last year and also showed an increase in net sales for the first three months of 2010, according to the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA).

Publishers saw a gross sales increase of more than 1% in March, a net sales increase of 8% for the month and 2% for the quarter. It was the first time the association had seen a positive change in net sales in more than year, ECPA said.

This Ain't Prettyville by Chonda Pierce (No Whining Productions/Provident-Integrity Distribution) continued to hold the top spot of SoundScan's Christian Videos list for sales the week ending April 21, while Over and Underneath by Tenth Avenue North (Reunion Records/Provident-Integrity) remained atop the Christian/Gospel music Christian retail chart.

Christian publishing veteran Dan Penwell died at his Chattanooga, Tenn., home April 18 after a long battle with cancer and other illnesses. He was 68.

Leading African-American publisher Urban Ministries Inc. (UMI) is marking its 40th anniversary with a leadership addition.

A former vice president at Focus on the Family, Terence Chatmon has been appointed president of the Calumet City, Ill.-based supplier. He takes on the job from C. Jeffrey Wright, who joined the business in 1995 as president and CEO and continues in the latter role.

Participants from around the world will converge on Miami, May 13-18, for Expolit 2010, where convention-goers will participate in the largest trade show in the U.S. for Spanish-language Christian products.

Retailers, publishers, distributors and music label representatives active in the Christian products industry attend the convention, which is also open to the general public. Held at the Doubletree Miami Mart, the show has a wide international reach, drawing an average of 140 exhibitors from all of Latin America, Spain, England and Japan.
