The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified Switchfoot's single “Stars” a Gold digital single, marking 100,000 legal downloads. The single's album, Nothing Is Sound, was declared a certified Gold album in the fall, marking 500,000 copies sold.

“Stars” is the band's third digital single certification, joining “Dare You to Move” and “Meant to Live” from The Beautiful Letdown. “Meant To Live” has also been certified a Platinum digital single by the RIAA for surpassing 200,000 downloads.
