The industry's supply-chain-management committee is exploring minimum certification initiatives for POS providers' electronic data interchange (EDI) capabilities and for retailer and supplier business practices. The idea is to define and outline minimum requirements that contribute to business efficiency and lower operational costs. The concept was discussed during the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association's (ECPA) spring conference, where the supply-chain-management committee reviewed its initiatives. Certification would put specific operational issues on the table so everybody could address them in an open way, said committee co-chair Kelly Gallagher, ECPA technology and marketing vice president.
"Certification would allow retailers, suppliers and industry POS providers to clearly understand the capabilities each has," Gallagher said. "It also will help clearly define the direction the industry is moving with the whole EDI process."
