Religious books again see sales dip Print Email

For the second month in a row, religious books sales decreased, dipping 0.3% for April, to sales of $44.2 million, according to the Association of American Publishers (AAP). However, religious books sales were up by 4.8% for the year.

Religious books posted a decline of 19.8% for March, with sales of $62.6 million, AAP previously reported. But sales of religious books for that month were up by 3.4% for the year.

Total book sales in April saw a slight decrease, with net sales down by 0.3% for the month. However, yearly sales saw a gain of 6.3% compared to last year.

The Adult Hardcover category was up by 27.5% in March, with sales of $135.9 million. Adult Paperback sales saw a gain of 3.2% for the month, with sales of $130.1 million, AAP said.

The Adult Hardcover category was down by 11.8% in April with sales of $113 million. But sales were up by 19.4% for the category for the year. Adult Paperback sales also declined by 3.2% for the month, with sales of $114.9 million and sales were down 2% for the year.

The Adult Mass Market category declined by 15.2% for April, with sales totaling $52.2 million and down by 9.3% for the year. The Children's/YA Hardcover category increased 23.9% for the month, with sales of $47.9 million, and sales for the year were also up by 20%. The Children's/YA Paperback category increased 25.5% in April, with sales totaling $41.4 million. Sales were up by 8.1% for the year.

Audio Book sales posted an increase of 8.1% for April compared to last year's figures, with sales totaling $12.3 million. Sales for the year in that category were up by 14.2%. E-books sales rose by 13.8% for the month, with sales of $2.5 million and an increase of 14.2% for the year.
