altFireproof (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity Distribution) remained atop the SoundScan Christian Videos list for sales the week ending March 15, while God of This City by Bluetree (Lucid Artist/Lucid Artist) continued to hold the top spot of the Christian/Gospel music Christian retail chart.

After Fireproof, the best-selling DVDs were: 2. VeggieTales: An Easter Carol (Big Idea/Word Distribution); 3. Though None Go With Me (GT Media/EMI CMG Distribution); 4. The Second Chance (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity); 6. Then Sings My Soul by George Beverly Shea (Gaither Music Group/EMI CMG); 7. Flywheel (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity); 8. Hermie and the High Seas, Hermie & Friends (Thomas Nelson/Thomas Nelson); 9. Facing the Giants (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity); and 10. altThe Love Dare by Fireproof movie-making brothers Stephen and Alex Kendrick (B&H Books/B&H Publishing Group) remained on top of CBA's April 2009's Top 50 best-sellers list. Titles related to the surprise hit drama Fireproof dominated the list, while books on Christian living and financial advice rounded out the top 10.

altJob security is a major concern in the Christian products industry, with almost half of suppliers and retailers anxious about their futures.

In Christian Retailing's latest Vital Signs survey, 48% of supplier employees and 41% of retail workers said they were not sure if they would still have their jobs by year's end.

altChristian fiction had a strong profile at the inaugural Christian Book Expo (CBE) with several events spotlighting the genre and the announcement of the finalists for the year's best Christian novels.

During Saturday morning's Joint Publisher Fiction Showcase, sponsored by the Christy Awards, a panel of best-selling authors explained their craft to a full room of more than 100 participants and answered questions from the audience. Panelists included Terri Blackstock, T. Davis Bunn, Mindy Starns Clark, Jerry Jenkins, Beverly Lewis, Robert Liparulo, Bill Myers and Janette Oke. Liz Curtis Higgs served as moderator.

altConsumers who turned out for the first-ever Christian Book Expo (CBE) in Dallas came face-to-face with their favorite Christian authors in a variety of settings, including informal book signings, workshops, concert-style events and panel discussions.

The March 20-22 event, sponsored by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA), boasted a roster of more than 220 Christian authors participating in a range of events intended to generate exposure for the Christian book industry.

altLow attendance for the Christian Book Expo (CBE) translated into disappointing returns for publishers and suppliers exhibiting at the show.

Chris Conver, a trade and academic sales representative for Westminster John Knox Press, said although it was "hard to measure" whether or not the event had been worth it for the company-due to contacts made for future purchases-his booth's total sales for the weekend were "less than $1,000."

altA question mark hangs over the future of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association's (ECPA) new Christian Book Expo (CBE) after a "hugely" disappointing turnout for the inaugural event in Dallas over the weekend.

As the three-day, consumer-oriented event closed yesterday, organizers released attendance numbers of a little more than 1,500 registered attendees, including 275 children who were given free registrations. The total was just a fraction of the number originally anticipated.

altPublishers from around the globe gathered yesterday in Dallas prior to the official opening of the Christian Book Expo, for leadership development.

The International Management Training Forum was held in the Dallas Convention Center, bringing together 30 representatives from as far afield as Brazil, China, Korea, Sweden, Denmark, Scotland and France.
