'Letters to God' movie offers hope

Inspired by a true story, the new movie Letters to God shows how the faith of a boy facing cancer changed the lives of many. Coming to theaters April 9 and backed by a wide selection of ancillary products to be offered in Christian bookstores, the film is directed by David Nixon, one of the producers of Facing the Giants and Fireproof.

Starring Tanner McGuire (House, M.D.; Lost) as Tyler Doherty, an 8-year-old boy stricken with cancer, the film tells the story of how he writes to God every day, his letters making their way into the hands of Brady (Jeffrey S. Johnson, CSI, Without a Trace), a postman with his own set of troubles. The cast also features Robyn Lively (Saving Grace, 30 Rock) who plays Tyler's mother, Maddy; Maree Cheatham (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Wedding Singer) as Olivia; and Ralph Waite (The Waltons, NCIS) as Mr. Perryfield.

Related products-including the Hope Is Contagious boxed cards from DaySpring and the God's Got My Back tees, hoodies and water bottles from Hope Apparel-aim to increase the reach of the movie and its message. Zondervan is also releasing in March Letters to God: A Novel by Patrick Doughtie and John Perry, the Letters to God Bible from Robert Wolgemuth, general editor, a picture book and journal.
