GiftsWithACause-CrossCuffNew Day Christian Distributors recently began working with Gifts With a Cause, a San Diego-based company that works with artisans in more than 20 countries.

A member of the Fair Trade Federation, Gifts With a Cause was founded by Liz Allen and Mark Fangue in 2006. The company helps families in developing countries gain economic independence and receive social justice while providing retailers and nonprofits with a line of handcrafted products, including jewelry, handbags and scarves.

While Fangue has a broad skill set, from engineering to counseling, Allen has more than 25 years of global product development and marketing successes volunteering in hospitals and doing pet therapy with abused children and the elderly.

The company aims to provide training and sustainable income for the hard work of more than 8,000 artisans so they can have a “hand up.” Each Gifts With a Cause product bears a tag that includes the artisan’s photo, a short story, UPC bar code and the Fair Trade logo of authenticity.

“It’s a great price point and it’s a great quality,” Michael Turner told Inspirational Gift Mart Bulletin at CPE at AmericasMart. “We did some before Christmas, but we’re really kicking it off now. They are in some Christian bookstores now and some specialty gift shops, but they want to spend more time training in the villages than selling and marketing.”
