Retailers gathered to hear how to make the most of their time at the show were given a presidential welcome-in the shape of George W. Bush impersonator John Morgan.

The world leader look-alike who has appeared on TV reality shows and releases a book about his faith and experiences in September, drew laughs from the 100-plus attendees who took part in the orientation session hosted by CBA convention consultant Steve Miller.

Morgan quipped that retailers had an important role to play in "communicating the good news of Jesus Christ to a world that desperately needs it, so that there will be no child left behind," referencing Bush's educational pledge and the best-selling end-times fiction series by Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye. He also spoke of "the four Cs of leadership," listing only three-courage, conviction and character.

Morgan, who was flanked by grey-suited "security guards" wearing dark glasses as he entered the room, returns to the show Tuesday for a signing of his forthcoming Sept. 2 release, My Life as a Bush ... and My Heart for Imitating Jesus (Creation House).

Miller then encouraged retailers to plan ahead and make the most of their time at the show. Although attendees average more than 17 hours on the ICRS exhibit floor-twice the national average for trade shows-that was still not enough time. He also suggested attendees focus on building relationships with others. He reminded them "we are not just here to get stuff to sell. We are all here to spread the Word. We all have a mission to make the world a better place through the world."

CBA President Bill Anderson encouraged retailers that one good idea they picked up while at ICRS and translated into action when they get home "could more than pay for this show."
