Every Tribe Entertainment held two screenings at Advance of Beyond the Gates of Splendor, a documentary based on the story of five missionaries, including Jim Elliot, speared to death in January 1956 in the Amazon basin of Equador. The documentary is a precursor to a full-length movie, The End of the Spear, scheduled to hit theaters nationwide in January 2006.

The documentary will be released this month for private screenings in churches, colleges and ministries and is due out on DVD in November. The cost and distributor has not been confirmed.

The documentary and movie will reveal how the deceased missionaries' relatives chose to live with the tribe and minister to them despite the apparent dangers.

"As this is a 50-year-old story, we want to expose as many people as possible to this story as we can," said Randy Swanson, public relations director for Every Tribe. "Hearing the story from the people who lived it is very strong."
