Jars of Clay's Sept. 5 release, Good Monsters, has been named CCM Magazine's Album of the Year in its latest issue, an unprecedented move for the magazine to announce so early in the year. Editor Jay Swartzendruber spoke of the decision in his “Letter from the Editor,” which follows a five-page cover story and full-page review of the album.

“Jars of Clay's new record is the landmark album of 2006,” Swartzendruber wrote. CCM's editorial team members felt it was “the most profound album the Christian music community has released in years,” he said.

Reviewer Brian Quincy Newcomb called Good Monsters “Jars' best work yet” and “the most intelligent, musically appealing and conceptually framed Christian album that I've heard in quite some time” and gave it an “A+” rating-the first the magazine has awarded in several years.
