Gospel artists find ways to help Katrina victims Print Email

Project Restore, the Gospel Music Association's official crisis response initiative, has announced plans for a Sept. 22 concert at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta to help hurricane victims. The event, co-sponsored with relief agency World Vision, will be broadcast nationally through the Gospel Music Channel and Independent TV (formerly PAX TV).

Third Day's song “Cry Out To Jesus,” included in the band's new CD, Wherever You Are, has been released weeks early to radio stations early, then offered as a free download through the band's Web site by its label, Essential Records. The band has pledged to donate $1 per download of the song, up to 50,000 downloads, for disaster relief.

The band also has collected more than $82,000 from the crowds at concerts held since the the disaster and pledged to match that amount as well as pledges of up to $50,000 through its Web site.

The Crabb Family also will participate in a fund-raising concert on Sept. 19 across the street from Houston's Astrodome. BEC/Tooth & Nail group Kutless has scheduled a benefit concert in its hometown of Portland, Ore., for Sept. 25.

A benefit concert organized by Kirk Talley, featuring Mark Lowry, LordSong, Talley Trio, Triumphant Quartet, Blackwoods, Kirk Talley, Anthony Burger, Ann Downing and Kenny Bishop is scheduled Sept. 27 at the Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tenn.
