Ingram Publisher Services (IPS)—Ingram Book Group's distribution, sales and marketing services for publishers)—has agreed to distribute a recently released book about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who was chosen last week to be the running mate by Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Fairbanks, Alaska-based Epicenter Press, which publishes books about Alaska, released Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska's Political Establishment Upside Down by Kaylene Johnson in May.

McCain's surprised announcement "caused a dramatic spike in orders" for the hardcover biography, said Epicenter Press Publisher Kent Sturgis, who contacted La Vergne, Tenn.-based IPS and Lightning Source to print and ship more than 30,000 copies of a paperback version of the book using print on demand technology.

"A relatively obscure book became the 'must read' for everyone following the closely contested presidential race," Ingram Lightning Group CEO David "Skip" Prichard said. "Ingram Lightning Group has a unique combination of companies that help to meet this type of unexpected spike of book orders. Consumers don't want to wait weeks for an important book."
