One of the industry's most recognizable Bibles is marking a major milestone. Published by Kirkbride Bible Co., the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible turns 100 this year. All regular size and large print copies of the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible KJV Edition sold this year will include a "Centennial Edition" stamp on the spine along with special packaging as well as an additional signature on the title page, a letter from company CEO Marshall Gage, and a brief history of the Bible and the company. Signed and numbered top-of-the-line and premium leather editions will also be available. Kirkbride will promote the centennial celebration, including a major emphasis at this summer's International Christian Retail Show in Orlando, Fla. First printed in 1908 by Methodists Book Concern of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible was the work of Frank Charles Thompson, who later partnered with B.B. Kirkbride. Thompson's goal was to create a Bible free from commentary or outside interpretation, instead linking verses to help readers research on their own.
