Religious book sales rise |

Religious books sales rose 1.6% in September for a total of $83.1 million. The increase in the category, which was up 8.3% for the year to date, was revealed in the latest figures just released by the Association of American Publishers (AAP), which saw a month overall increase of 5.7% and yearly sales up 9.9%. The Adult Hardcover category was up by 23.6% in September with sales of $246.5 million and year-to-date sales were also up by 14.8%. Adult Paperback sales were down by 10.7% for the month ($148.1 million) and sales were down slightly by 1.8% for the year. Revenues in the Adult Mass Market category fell by 7.5% for September with sales of $71.6 million, contributing toward a 6.3% decline year-to-date. Children's/Young Adult (YA) Hardcover sales saw a decrease of 12.8% with a total of $87.1 million, although sales year-to-date were up by 63%.
The AAP also revealed that Children's/YA Paperback sales increased by 8.7% in September with sales totaling $58.1 million; sales were also up by 4.4% for the year. Audiobook sales rose 36.5% for the month with sales totaling $22.5 million and sales for the whole year were up by 40.1%.
