GMA Canada gives 2006 Covenant Awards Print Email

Starfield and Ali Matthews led the list of winners as the Gospel Music Association (GMA) Canada presented its 28th Annual Covenant Awards on Oct. 27 in Calgary.

Starfield picked up four awards, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year and Group of the Year, while Matthews earned awards for Folk/Roots Song of the Year, Country/Bluegrass Song of the Year, Seasonal Song of the Year and Folk/Roots Album of the Year.

Other multiple winners included Brian Doerksen and Downhere, with three awards each. Doerksen received Artist of the Year, Inspirational Song of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year honors, while Downhere won Rock Album of the Year, Recorded Song of the Year and Rock Song of the Year.

The children's “God Rocks!” series won two awards for DVD of the Year and Children's Song of the Year.

The Covenant Awards capped off GMA Week in Canada with a worship event on Oct. 25 featuring Doerksen, and workshops and seminars Oct. 26-27 as part of the Canada Christian Music conference.
