Christian-market author Natalie Nichols Gillespie has been named the 2006 Angels in Adoption award winner for Florida's Fifth Congressional District. Gillespie is author of the Successful Adoption handbook (Integrity). Gillespie and her family are to join other honorees at the Angels in Adoption gala in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. The Angels in Adoption campaign is a national movement to raise awareness about adoption and related issues. The Congressional Coalition on Adoption will be hosting the gala, with President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush asked to serve as honorary co-chairs. Platinum Dove Award-winning artist Mark Schultz is to be a featured performer at the gala. Schultz was selected to take part in the event in part because of the lyrics for “Everything to Me,” a song he co-wrote about his own adoption, from his upcoming Sept. 26 release, Broken & Beautiful (Word). Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite (R-Fla.), the current Republican House co-chair and mother of an adopted daughter, announced Gillespie's award. “Natalie and her husband, Adam, have dedicated their lives to helping place orphans and adopted children into permanent, loving families,” she said. “I am so honored to be chosen by Congresswoman Brown-Waite to receive this award,” Gillespie said.
Since the program's inception in 1999, members of Congress have awarded more than 750 Angels to individuals from all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
