Religious book sales decrease in September |

Net publishing sales were up 4.2% for September and 7.4% for the year, according to the Association of American Publishers (AAP). Large gains occurred for audiobooks and electronic books-28.4% and 36.6%, respectively-while religious books saw a decrease of 4.3%, with sales of $35.7 million. Year-to-date sales for audiobooks increased by 36.5% while e-books increased by 43.1%. The adult hardcover category slipped 9.9%, with sales of $141.7 million, and adult paperback increased 8.7%, with sales totaling $111.4 million.
The children's and young-adult hardcover category sales for 2005 have increased 96.5% compared to last year. The category saw a gain of 23.4% for September, with sales totaling $86.5 million. The children's and young-adult paperback sales increased 4.3%, with sales of $39.6 million. This category is up by 2.3% for 2005.
