Baker Books, a division of Baker Publishing Group, and Emergent, a nonprofit, nondenominational organization that networks pastors and other leaders, have reached a multiyear agreement to publish a series of books.

Emergent had published books through Youth Specialties with Zondervan under the emergentYS brand. In August, Zondervan is scheduled to release Preaching Re-Imagined on the role of preaching in the postmodern church. The book is by Emergent author Doug Pagitt.

The new series with Baker will be targeted toward lay and vocational church leaders. The first book in the partnership will release in the latter half of 2006.

Emergent began in the 1990s and focuses on Christian theology, practice, spirituality, justice and church life. Past Emergent authors include Brian McLaren, Dan Kimball, Ivy Beckwith and Tony Jones. The focus of Baker Books is the church and lay Christians active in ministry.
