Underscoring the diversity that exists in Christian music, rockers Switchfoot, Southern Gospel group The Crabb Family and Casting Crowns garnered multiple Dove Awards at Wednesday's 36th Annual GMA Music Awards in Nashville last night. Switchfoot took home four awards, including top artist and rock/contemporary song of the year for "Dare You To Move;" singer Jonathan Foreman also received an additional award for songwriting. The Crabb Family's Driven was also a big winner, receiving awards in multiple categories, including Southern Gospel Album of the Year. Other multiple Dove winners included Casting Crowns for Group of the Year, with lead singer Mark Hall winning Songwriter of the Year.
Israel & New Breed received Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year and Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year for Live From Another Level. Jeremy Camp was named Male Vocalist of the Year, and Nicole C. Mullen picked up the Female Vocalist of the Year award. Performances at last night's event were as diverse as the categories. They included rock (Skillet, BarlowGirl), pop (Casting Crowns, Natalie Grant), gospel (Kierra "Kiki" Sheard, J Moss), worship (Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Matt Redman) and Southern Gospel (The Crabb Family).
