ECPA REPORTS FLAT SALES FOR BOOKS DURING HOLIDAY Print Email

Christian book sales at Christian retail outlets showed a minimal increase during the two-week period surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday (Nov. 20-Dec. 3) this year as compared with 2003, according to data compiled by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA).

Based on P.O.S. data compiled from STATS (Sales Tracking Analysis Trends Summary) database, ECPA reports the top 3,500 Christian book titles increased 0.4% in unit volume and 2.2% in dollar volume from 2003 to 2004. Unit volume for sales was 1,112,116 in 2003 and 1,116,388 in 2004. Dollar volume was $14,033,043 in 2003 and $14,346,012 in 2004.

Christian DVD/video, however, showed a large increase in sales over the past year. Unit volume for sales in 2003 was 35,620 as compared with 135,995 in 2004. The dollar volume was $585,920 in 2003, jumping to nearly $2.2 million in 2004.
