Inspired by a sermon from a popular pastor to use the "second half" of life for the kingdom, one gift company is using its products to encourage others and support ministry to the needy.

Illinois-based Lighthouse Christian Products, known for scripture-themed frames, coffee mugs and sculptures, originated in 1997 when George Nizynski began doing printed scripture artwork for Willow Creek Community Church, where he and his wife, Pat, volunteered.

But it was inspiration from Senior Pastor Bill Hybels that sealed the deal. In a sermon, Hybels encouraged his members to "impact the kingdom" in the "second part of your life."

The company, which tags itself as "The Encouragement Company," uses its resources to spread positive messages to its customers through more than 600 unique products ranging in price from $4 to $175. Ed and George, influenced by the general market popularity of the "Successories" products, combined inspirational messages with scripture, a key part of the company′s mission.

"Every product we'll ever design has the Word of God on it," said Ed Nizynski, vice president of sales and brother to George. "We stay true to what we feel called to do, encourage people with the Word of God, whether (with) a cross, mug or plush item. Everything has the Word of God on it in a very encouraging, uplifting way."
