Christian products industry continues Haiti response Print Email

Christian music artists, publishers and authors continue to mobilize relief efforts for disaster victims in Haiti, which was struck Jan. 12 by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake, causing thousands of casualties.

Michael W. Smith hosted a group of Christian and country artists yesterday in Franklin, Tenn., to record "Come Together Now," which he co-wrote with David Mullen and Cindy Morgan. Among the participants were Steven Curtis Chapman, Mark Hall of Casting Crowns, Wynonna, Natalie Grant, Selah, Point of Grace, Phil Stacey and the Oak Ridge Boys. Proceeds from the song will benefit the American Red Cross and Samaritan's Purse. The date of release and distribution for the song has not been announced.

Retailers Choice Awards nominations close soon Print Email

Suppliers of Christian products have less than a week left to enter their best releases of the year in Christian Retailing's 2010 Retailers Choice Awards, as nominations close this Friday, Jan. 29. The entry fee remains just $50 per item.

Celebrating 10 years in 2010, the Retailers Choice Awards have been increasingly acknowledged as an important way of recognizing some of the most significant new life-changing products in the Christian retail industry.

B&H Publishing Group will unveil a wedding edition of its The Love Dare Day by Day devotional, which was released last month. Featuring an imitation-leather cover with a two-piece gift box and retailing for $29.99, The Love Dare Day by Day Wedding Edition will be released April 1.

Andrea Dennis, trade group marketing and promotions representative for B&H, told Christian Retailing that the announcement of the wedding edition had been received warmly by Christian retailers.

Speaking Louder Than Before by Jeremy Camp (BEC Recordings/EMI CMG Distribution) remained atop the SoundScan's Christian/Gospel music Christian retail chart for sales the week ending Jan. 17, while Perfect Stranger and Another Perfect Stranger: The Director's Double Feature (Kelly's Filmworks/EMI CMG) continued to hold the top spot of the Christian Videos list.

Christian bookstore’s roof collapses Print Email

Part of a Rochester, Minn.-based Christian bookstore's roof collapsed at the weekend due to snow and ice, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

A section of the roof over Christian Book & Gift Shop's gift section collapsed Saturday, which, in turn, snapped a water pipe and flooded parts of the store, the Rochester Post-Bulletin reported.

Bridge-Logos distributes British books Print Email

Florida-based Bridge-Logos Foundation recently started distributing books by British publishers Warboys Publishing, Sovereign World and New Wine Ministries.

Bridge-Logos CEO Lloyd Hildebrand told Christian Retailing that the new publishing agreements came about because of his "fascination" with Journal of the Unknown Prophet by Wendy Alec, co-owner of Warboys. After contracting with Warboys, Sovereign World and New Wine followed suit.

Christian publishers who have looked to live events as an additional revenue stream are making changes to keep things flowing.

Thomas Nelson's Women of Faith (WoF) and Revolve Tour conferences for women and young women, respectively, face a transitional year in 2010, while Zondervan prepares to launch a new event after divesting itself of others.
