The Virtual Christian Retailing Show, a Web-based event hosted by Christian Retailing magazine, has seen nearly 5,000 visits from more than 3,000 people viewing product information from 26 exhibitors. Christian retailers still have time to take advantage of the specials being offered until the show ends tomorrow.

The virtual show also features Webinar training for stores. Held earlier this month, the first presentation by Carpentree on "Successful Art and Gift Sales" was in high demand and was sold out. Kerusso's Webinar on "Keys to Apparel Sales Success" was recently held, generating strong interest from retailers. The Music Still Matters Webinar sponsored by EMI CMG Distribution is also available.

The Virtual Album Release Session was also recently launched as part of the virtual show, featuring new songs from top artists. Phil Stacey, an American Idol finalist, discusses Into the Light (Reunion Records/Provident-Integrity Distribution), while Phillips, Craig & Dean talk about Fearless (INO Records/Provident-Integrity).

In addition, the Virtual Christmas Showcase-featuring suppliers' holiday specials and promotions-is scheduled to run Sept. 30-Nov. 16.

There is also a link to a new social networking forum through which retailers and suppliers can connect for fellowship, encouragement and business.

In the latest round of layoffs, Focus on the Family has announced a reorganization that will eliminate 75 jobs--an 8% reduction in its workforce--and an additional 57 vacant positions will remain unfilled, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

The cutbacks are necessary to offset a $6 million revenue shortfall, ministry officials announced last week. The Colorado Springs, Colo.-based organization is shutting down the creative division of its advertising department, accounting for 30 of the layoffs, The Gazette of Colorado Springs reported. The others are from various departments throughout the ministry, including Love Won Out, a conference for homosexuals that Focus is handing over to Exodus International.
