Recently I have noticed that every store I enter has “sale" sections. How many sale promotions are too many?

Sale promotions are wonderful if they accomplish their intended purpose. Many times, sales are just a way to “discard” items that are remainders. Thus you would not want to make the face or look of your store to be older sale product.

Another reason to feature sales is to move “overstocked” items. This is a common way to offer discounts on items you purchase with special incentives or with items that you find necessary to move quickly. The greatest success with a display of this type is when you have a large number of an item, and you use signage that states the regular and discounted price. It is important, too, that the feature be positioned in a very visible place.

A sale section or signage should never block the front of the store. Your main product should always be visible.
