John and Stasi Eldredge, co-authors of Captivating (Nelson Books), presented a women's mini-conference Thursday that was based on the book.

The more than 200 attendees were offered a condensed version of the message presented in what normally is a four-day event. Both Stasi and John spoke at the event and showed a number of popular movie clips that, they noted, appeal to the feminine heart.

The Eldredges reminded women that every woman asks three questions at a heart level: “Am I lovely? Do you see me? Am I captivating?”

“It takes both men and women together to bear the image of God,” Stasi said. John led participants in prayer and challenged them to “break agreements” they've made with the enemy who is in an all-out assault against the feminine heart.

Women often have been consigned to a gospel of duty and service, John said, declaring “that's not good news.” Rather, Christ comes to “heal and restore and set you free as a woman,” he said.

During the luncheon, John told retailers about some of the product they would be receiving, including a video recording of the mini-conference that would be mailed to each attendee. He also gave what he said he believed to be a word from the Lord for retailers: that they needed rest, that God was proud of them and to listen to Him.

Mary Margaret Bittle of Morning Star: A Perfect Gift in Greencastle, Pa., found the mini-conference “very refreshing, but it was 'mini.' It was a good appetizer.” She said she “wanted to take advantage of attending this because their books have blessed our family … and I just wanted to get to know the heart of John and Stasi a little more.”
