Rock band Skillet is promoting the film Evan Almighty, which is set to release June 22. Skillet is mentioning the movie from the stage at events, and previewing the movie's trailer and running a campaign through the band's Web site, according to the group's record label, SRE Recordings. A sequel to Bruce Almighty, the 2003 comedy film that starred Jim Carrey, Evan Almighty is directed by Tom Shadyac and stars Steve Carell, with Morgan Freeman reprising his role as God. In the film, Evan (Carell) is a politician who abandons Congress in order to build an ark, taking off on the story of Noah. Universal Pictures has teamed up with Grace Hill Media, a public relations firm that reaches out to religious groups, to publicize the mainstream film, The New York Times reported.
One result of the effort is ArkAlmighty.com, a Web site that promotes good deeds. It suggests acts of random kindness, and helps participating congregations create online bulletin boards to post requests for help and offers of service among members.
