Christian singer/songwriter Carmen Calhoun has been selected as a grand prize winner in the Session II Gospel category of the 2006 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for her song “Broken and Blessed,” according to contest officials.

Calhoun's song will now compete against Matt Tipton's “The Greatest of Names,” the Session I Gospel category grand prize winner, in an online voting battle to become the Lennon award-winner for the Gospel category. There are 11 other categories besides Gospel.

Listeners can vote at www.jlsc.com/vote through April 6. Winners of the Session I and Session II competition will be announced May 1. The 12 category winners will then compete for the Maxell Song of the Year and $20,000, which will be announced in July, contest officials said.
