Donald Lawrence and his Tri-City Singers' Finale: Act One and Finale: Act Two live discs recently received eight Stellar Awards, garnering trophies in the Artist of the Year, Choir of the Year, Contemporary CD of the Year and Contemporary Choir of the Year categories. Lawrence also earned Producer of the Year honors during the 22nd Annual Stellar Awards, which celebrated gospel music's brightest at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Jan. 13. Without the Singers, Lawrence's 2004 I Speak Life album had him also dominating last year's Stellar Awards, with six awards, including Artist of the Year. Lawrence and the Singers released Finale: Act One and Finale: Act Two (EMI Gospel) to signify the end of their 15-yearlong partnership. Tye Tribbett, who co-hosted this year's event with Kirk Franklin and sister duo Mary Mary, received Contemporary Male Vocalist honors for his Victory LIVE! project (Sony Urban/Integrity Gospel), with the G.A. ensemble. Franklin earned a CD of the Year award for Hero (Fo Yo Soul Entertainment). R&B star Patti LaBelle performed a selection from her recently released first gospel project, The Gospel According to Patti LaBelle (Bungalo Records).
