Thomas Nelson's The Faith of Barack Obama by Stephen Mansfield, examining the spiritual beliefs of the historic Democrat presidential candidate, releases this week.

Mansfield, author of The Faith of George W. Bush (Charisma House) and The Faith of the American Soldier (FrontLine), writes on the issues of faith surrounding the candidate, including his previous association with Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ and his former pastor, Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., who came under fire for controversial statements made in his sermons.

The author attempts to detail the Illinois senator's walk of faith without political or ideological bias, providing perspective on the man he says is "unapologetically Christian and unapologetically liberal."

Archbishop Desmond Tutu endorses the book, saying readers will "know why Barack Obama has such a passion for justice and equity, such a gift for filling people of different generations with a newfound hope that things can and will change for the better. His inspiration comes from his faith; he is an ardent believer. Yes, he is a Christian and proud of it."
