A new series of children's books inspired by Focus on the Family's popular "Adventures in Odyssey" world finally hits stores soon-more than a decade after they were originally written.

Odyssey writer and producer Marshal Younger sees the first titles in the new "Kidsboro" series released by Tyndale House Publishers under its Focus on the Family imprint in June. The books are Kidsboro No. 1: Battle for Control and Kidsboro No. 2: The Rise and Fall of the Kidsborian Empire.

Odyssey fans will recognize just one character-Whit, who sparked the idea of a kid-run community long before the recent reality TV show Kid Nation. According to Younger, he saw 60 publishers turn the idea down before it was accepted and then cancelled.

"My hope for 'Kidsboro' is that kids might learn something about government, economics, U.S. history and, of course, moral and biblical lessons," Younger said. The book series will get a jump-start when Focus on the Family airs a three-part "Kidsboro" audio series during "Adventures in Odyssey" programs in late May and early June.
