The Wright Entertainment Group, the management company that represents artists such as Britney Spears and 'N Sync, is looking to create a Christian version of the mega-hit TV show American Idol. Titled Gifted, the show is scheduled to debut in October on Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), the world's largest religious television network, which features well-known evangelists such as Benny Hinn. Wright spokesman Philip McIntyre told the Associated Press that Orlando, Fla.-based Wright Entertainment Group is part of a joint venture, called Wright Generation, with Matt Crouch, son of the founders of Trinity Broadcasting Network, to create the talent-search show.
According to the Associated Press, a cross-country summer bus tour is scheduled to visit 11 Trinity stations, where solo singers, ages 18-24, can audition. The finalists will be flown to Hollywood, where they will sing before a live audience and be judged by a celebrity panel. The television audience will choose the winner, and Wright and Crouch will manage the winner's career.
