Rebecca St. James recently caused a stir in London that was heard around the world.

Interviewed by Reuters International News Service in London during her current European tour, St. James was asked about her views on her key platform, abstinence.

The service asked St. James her opinion of Britney Spears, who also made a publicized vocal vow of abstinence until marriage, but recently admitted she did not keep the promise.

"I feel sad for Britney," said St. James in a feature that hit headline news on both the worldwide Web site of CCN.com and CCN Headline News in the U.S. headlined "Christian Rock Star 'Sad' For Britney."

"She has had an unbelievable amount of pressure put on her. She would have people from the top of her record label to her manager and her peers saying you've got to be more raunchy, show more skin," said St. James. "It's like water on a stone, it just starts wearing away no matter how strong you are."

"I think most people understand talking about purity is an area young people need to be encouraged in as there's so much pressure to compromise on the issue these days," she also noted.
