The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) has announced 13 finalists for its second annual ECPA/Dickinson Press Book Cover Award.

The award recognizes outstanding book cover design in Christian publishing. Winners in each of the four categories—Bibles, Small-Sized Publisher, Mid-Sized Publisher and Large Publisher—will be announced at ECPA's Publishing University in Chicago, Nov. 2.

The finalists in the Bibles category are The Literary Study Bible and Urban Devotional Bible (both English Standard Version, Crossway Books & Bibles) and The Voice of Hebrews (The Voice translation, Thomas Nelson).

In the Small-Sized Publisher category, the finalists are Francis Schaeffer: An Authentic Life by Colin Duriez (Crossway Books & Bibles), Preaching as Art by Darius Salter (Beacon Hill Press), Red Letters by Tom Davis, and Zora and Nicky by Claudia Mair Burney (both David C. Cook).

Faith to Faith by Dan Scott and O2 by Richard Dahlstrom (both Harvest House Publishers), and On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andrew Peterson (WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group) are the finalists in the Mid-Sized Publisher category.

The finalists in the Large Publisher category are Adam by Ted Dekker and The Domino Effect Participant's Guide by Chris Brooks, Chad Norris and Dave Rhodes (both Thomas Nelson), and unchristian by David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons (Baker Publishing Group).

Sixty-three entries were submitted by 13 member publishers. A team of design and marketing experts evaluated the entries based on how the design itself matches the characteristics of the book's target audience, ECPA officials said. Design components such as composition, images, font treatment, color palette and title were also considered.

"Research proves that book covers powerfully impact consumer purchasing decisions, so this special recognition is well deserved," said ECPA President Mark Kuyper.
