Christian Focus Publications (CFP) is celebrating the 30-year anniversary of its "Bibletime" book series for children, which launched the publishing company. To mark the anniversary, Scotland-based CFP recently released Moses: God's Leader and Paul: The Wise Preacher by Carine Mackenzie, author of the first Bibletime book in 1978. The 14 previous Bibletime books are still in print, selling more than 2.5 million copies worldwide and translated into 12 languages, company officials said. Beginning with Gideon: Soldier of God, other books in the series have included stories about Esther, Jonah, Mary and Peter. Mackenzie, who wrote Gideon: Soldier of God in the kitchen of her home in Inverness, Scotland, began what is now CFP with her husband, William. "I wrote these stories because our older children complained that Bible storybooks often did not tell the same story as the Bible did," said Mackenzie, who has authored more than 50 books for children. "If we change Scripture to suit our story-telling, then we make the Bible just another fable." |
