Suppliers have shown strong interest in The Gathering 2009, the new winter show for the Christian products industry, according to organizers.

Around two-thirds of the exhibition space at the Jan. 7-9 event in the Orlando, Fla., area has already been booked, with more than 100 companies expected to take part.

Sponsored by Strang Communications, publisher of Christian Retailing magazine and its The Church Bookstore and Inspirational Gift Trends supplements, The Gathering builds on previous annual Gathering of Church Bookstores events by adding elements for inspirational gift and independent retailers.

Combining training sessions, fellowship and inspiration, and an exhibition floor, The Gathering is to be held at the Ramada Orlando Celebration Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee, not far from Walt Disney World. The event will open with a special time of prayer for the industry.

"We're encouraged by the response to this new event," said Christian Retailing Advertising Director Dave Condiff. "Suppliers recognize the value of having an opportunity to present to retailers at the start of the year in this sort of a setting."
