Christian bookstore chains Mardel Christian & Educational Supply and Family Christian Stores are rallying support for the family of Dove Award-winner Steven Curtis Chapman, whose 5-year-old adopted daughter, Maria, was accidentally killed May 21 in the driveway of the family's home in Nashville. Mardel has installed a special display in its stores highlighting Chapman's newest CD This Moment: Cinderella Edition (Sparrow Records/EMI CMG). The Oklahoma City-based chain, which has 27 locations in six states, including Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, will donate the profits from the sale of this CD to Maria's Miracle Fund, company officials said. On its Web site, Family Christian Stores encourages customers to pray for Chapman's family and donate to Maria's Miracle Fund, providing a link to Shaohannah's Hope-the adoption organization started by Chapman and his wife, Mary Beth, to aid families wanting to adopt. Meanwhile, Chapman's manager, Jim Houser said "there is still profound sadness" experienced by Chapman's family. "There is still deep concern for some in the family and how they will chart their way out of these dark days," Houser wrote on his blog. "But there is a Savior; they are sure of it. I hear them talking about it. Heaven is real."
"And then there is a community of family and friends praying," he added. "Your prayers are often talked about and appreciated. The family is overwhelmed by your support and is comforted by it, be assured."
