Relationship experts and authors Gary and Carrie Oliver were recently honored with the H. Norman and Joyce Wright Lifetime Achievement Award during the fourth annual Association of Marriage & Family Ministries (AMFM) Marriage and Family Ministry Conference.

The Olivers accepted the award in one of their first public appearances since the death of their 23-year-old son last month in a hunting accident.

"I have been battling cancer for the past two years and today is the month anniversary of the death of our second son, Matthew, but it was important for us to be here," Carrie Oliver told the hundreds of ministers and lay leaders gathered at Carmel Baptist Church in Matthews, N.C., June 5.

Gary Oliver added: "This award means so much to us because we are in the business of marriage and family relationships, and because we know that is the heart of AMFM, too."

After receiving the award, named after best-selling author H. Norman Wright and his wife, Joyce, the Olivers gave the opening keynote address, sharing their personal testimony of hope through their recent tragedy and ongoing challenges, AMFM said.
