Leading audiobook publisher Brilliance Audio, whose catalog includes a strong list of Christian titles, has been bought by online retailer Amazon.com.

The acquisition, announced yesterday, will enable Amazon to "work closely with the book publishing community to further expand the number of books produced in audio format and provide customers with an even greater selection of audiobooks," the new owners said in a statement.

Founded in 1984 and based in Grand Haven, Mich., Brilliance Audio is the largest independent audiobook publisher in the country, producing a wide range of fiction and nonfiction titles in full and unabridged versions. The purchase was "a big plus for audio book customers," said Brilliance President Eileen Hutton.

Among Brilliance's current new releases are Jesus of Nazareth by Pope Benedict XVI, Reposition Yourself by T.D. Jakes, A New Song by Jan Karon, Kingdom Come by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, and Measuring Our Success (Bible Study With Jimmy Carter Vol. 2) by Jimmy Carter.
