Casa Creación captured most of the major awards handed out by the Spanish Evangelical Products Association (SEPA) Awards last night at the 15th annual Expolit convention in Miami. Su mejor vida ahora, the Spanish translation of Joel Osteen's best-selling book, Your Best Life Now (FaithWords), was named the "Harold Kregel 2006 Book of the Year" and "Top-selling Book of 2006," while garnering a Platinum Award for lifetime sales of at least 250,000. Cristina de Hasbún's Dile adiós al pasado (Say Goodbye To The Past) was voted "Best Original Spanish Work of 2006," the fifth consecutive year Casa Creación has won the category. Strang Communications' 10-year-old Spanish imprint was also named "Publisher of the Year" for the second time. Stephen Strang, the company's president who attended the awards banquet, lauded Tessie DeVore, president of SEPA and executive vice president of the Strang Book Group, for helping start and grow the imprint. In other awards, Fuente de Vida was named "Distributor of the Year," while the "Music Industry Award" went to Grupo CanZion President Marcos Witt. Fuente de Vida President Joel Tumax, who founded the company with his wife, Astrid, in their garage in 1997, said: "We thank God for everything He has given us. We worked hard, and we hope to win again next year." The company is adding a 5,000-square-foot warehouse, which opens in Miami today. Pastor John Hagee, keynote speaker at the awards evening, spoke on the theme "The Attitude of Fortitude." The Spanish translation of his best-selling book, Cuenta regresiva a Jerusalén (Jerusalem Countdown), was a "Book of the Year" nominee from Casa Creación.
Casa Creación won two trophies each in the Art and Design, Impact and Bestsellers categories. Editorial Unilit captured three awards in the categories of Art and Design and Bestsellers. LifeWay International received two awards in the Bestsellers category, while Editorial Vida (Zondervan) received one trophy.
