Greeted by mixed reviews, Thr3e, based on Ted Dekker's novel, which won the 2004 Gold Medallion Book Award for fiction presented by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association, finished at No. 21 in its opening weekend, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. With a budget of $2.4 million, it grossed just $740,000 after debuting on only 458 screens. A thriller about a seminary student who is stalked by a psychopathic killer, Thr3e is the latest release from FoxFaith, the Twentieth Century Fox label created to distribute movies targeting the Christian community. However, the movie, which was filmed in Poland, was widely panned by critics. A review on the Rotten Tomatoes Web site called Thr3e “a shoddily made, thrill-free thriller” and the New York Post said the film “commits the eighth deadly sin-boredom.” The Fresno Bee, though, praised the movie, calling Thr3e “a first-rate thriller. Imagine Seven without the gore and violence.” The Springfield (Missouri) News-Leader also lauded the film, noting that it “avoids witnessing and delivers entertainment free of sex, profanity and blood.”
Thr3e is the first of an expected six or more releases from FoxFaith in 2007. Based on the novel by Francine Rivers, The Last Sin Eater is set for release Feb. 16 and The Ultimate Gift |
