The Weinstein Company (TWC), the multimedia enterprise launched by Bob and Harvey Weinstein, formerly of Miramax Entertainment, has entered into a multiyear, “first-look” deal with Tulsa, Okla.-based Impact Entertainment. The agreement with the Christian movie production and marketing company covers the acquisition and production of theatrical and direct-to-video titles for the faith-based community. All films under the deal will be distributed theatrically by TWC and on DVD by Weinstein arm Genius Products LLC. As part of the Impact agreement, TWC acquired the rights to adapt The Penny, the semi-autobiographical book by The New York Times best-selling author Joyce Meyer (FaithWords) and The Christmas Candle by Max Lucado (WestBow Press). TWC and Impact also will work with Meyers on a second unnamed project, a company statement said.
TWC's strategy was to acquire and produce films targeting various niche audiences, the statement said. “We are proud to partner with the team at Impact Entertainment, who are very passionate and dedicated to producing films that moviegoers will love,” said the Weinsteins.
