Gospel acts see GRAMMY nominations |

Nominations for the 49th Annual GRAMMY Awards were announced today in Hollywood, with several Christian industry musicians receiving nods. Country singer Carrie Underwood will compete for Best New Artist and Best Female Country Vocal Performance, and her hit “Jesus, Take the Wheel” was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Country Song. In the Best Gospel Performance category, nominees were Yolanda Adams' “Victory” from The Gospel Soundtrack (Verity); Israel & New Breed's “Not Forgotten” from Alive in South Africa (Integrity Gospel); Donald Lawrence & the Tri-City Singers' “The Blessing of Abraham” from Finalé Act One (EMI Gospel); Chris Tomlin's “Made to Worship” from See the Morning (Sixstepsrecords/Sparrow); and Tye Tribbett & G.A.'s “Victory” from Victory Live! (Columbia/Sony Urban). For Best Gospel Song, nominees were “The Blessing of Abraham,” Donald Lawrence & the Tri-City Singers (EMI Gospel); “Imagine Me,” Kirk Franklin (Fo Yo Soul/Verity); “Mountain of God,” Third Day (Essential); “Not Forgotten,” Israel & New Breed (Integrity Gospel); and “Victory,” Tye Tribbett & G.A. (Columbia/Sony Urban). In the Rock or Rap Gospel Album category, nominees were: DecembeRadio for DecembeRadio (Slanted), Sarah Kelly for Where the Past Meets Today (Gotee), Jonny Lang for Turn Around (A&M), Red for End of Silence (Essential) and T-Bone for Bone-A-Fide (Bone Yard/Flicker). For Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album, nominees are Leeland for Sound of Melodies (Essential), MercyMe for Coming Up to Breathe (INO), Third Day for Wherever You Are (Essential), Chris Tomlin for See the Morning (Sixstepsrecords/Sparrow) and Ayiesha Woods for Introducing Ayiesha Woods (Gotee). Nominees for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album were Kenny Bishop for Kenny Bishop (Daywind), Gaither Vocal Band for Give It Away (Gaither Music Group), Alan Jackson for Precious Memories (ACR Records/Arista), The Del McCoury Band for The Promised Land (McCoury Music) and Randy Travis for Glory Train (Word/Curb/Warner Bros.). Nominees for the Best Traditional Gospel Album were Byron Cage for An Invitation to Worship (Zomba/GospoCentric), The Caravans for Paved the Way (Malaco), The Dixie Hummingbirds for Still Keeping It Real (MCG), Israel & New Breed for Alive in South Africa (Integrity Gospel) and Donald Lawrence & the Tri-City Singers for Finalé Act One (EMI Gospel). In the Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album category, nominees were Myron Butler & Levi for Set Me Free (EMI Gospel), Kirk Franklin for Hero (Fo Yo Soul/Zomba), Israel & New Breed for A Timeless Christmas (Integrity Gospel), Kierra Kiki Sheard for This Is Me (EMI Gospel) and Tye Tribbett & G.A. for Victory Live! (Columbia/Sony Urban).
