CBA has issued a statement in response to a “confusing” news report that suggested an online sex aids company was among the exhibitors at this year's International Christian Retail Show in Denver in July. The Book22 business referenced in Web and print articles had not been “at the event, nor had the company been at any other show CBA has ever hosted,” the trade association said in a statement. “To qualify to have a booth at a CBA show, a company must have products already in Christian stores. In fact, until this article came to CBA's attention, CBA was unaware Book22 existed.” CBA posted its statement at its Web site Monday after some members inquired about what it called the “short, confusing and poorly written 'news story.' ”
According to CBA Director of Communications & Marketing Leon Wirth, the article “appears to be using the Book22 Web site in an effort to poke fun at our industry. It's hard to imagine this online reseller, which isn't a manufacturer, selling products wholesale through Christian stores and thereby meeting that most basic qualification to exhibit at our shows.”
