Relevant Media Group has been spotlighted as an example of how to successfully use new media to meet the spiritual needs of the “connected generation” in a new book published by Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster (S&S). Mind Your X's & Y's: Satisfying the 10 Cravings of a New Generation of Consumers by marketing expert Lisa Johnson describes the core issues of Generations X and Y, pinpointing new concerns for 18- to 40-year-olds. Relevant Media Group, which uses tools ranging from podcasts to streaming video, is described in the book as “a company that is revolutionizing how a new generation views faith and religion.” In a chapter highlighting the intersection of faith and modern media, Relevant President and CEO Cameron Strang outlines the attitudes of the “connected generation” when it comes to matters of faith.
“Some people believe that this generation hates church,” Strang said. “But that is simply not true. They're just looking for something deeper than the formulaic template of a traditional church service. They'd rather go down to a coffee shop and have an intimate conversation with their friends about their faith than attend a regular Sunday service.”
