Religious books down, overall sales rise in February |

While publishing sales continued to make gains in February in most categories, religious book sales saw a decline of 33.7%, with domestic net sales of $23.6 million, as well as a 31.8% decrease for the year, the Association of American Publishers (AAP) reported. Total sales were up by 12.3% for the month, and up by 6.6% for the year. Adult Mass-Market books increased as did Children's/YA Paperbacks, though Children's/YA Hardcover dipped. Sales for the Adult Hardcover category gained 3% for February, with sales of $64.9 million; sales were down by 10.9% for the year. Adult Paperback sales continued to grow with an increase of 18.1% (sales totaled $78.3 million) and increased by 22.6% for the year. The Adult Mass-Market category posted a gain of 103.1% for February, with sales totaling $54.3 million, as well as a 28.6% increase for the year. The Children's/YA Hardcover category saw a loss of 42.1% in February, with sales totaling $19.3 million; sales were down by 23.2% for the year. Children's/YA Paperback sales, however, continued to rise for the month with an increase of 23.6% (sales totaling $28.8 million) and a 27.6% increase for the year.
Audiobook sales posted a gain of 7.8% in February, with sales totaling $10.6 million (a 4% increase for the year).
