Michael W. Smith selected by President Bush for council |

Michael W. Smith has been nominated by the White House to serve a two-year term as a member of President George W. Bush's Council on Service and Civic Participation. The Council was established in Jan. 2003. The aim of the Council, whose 20-odd members include athletes, lawmakers and entertainers, is to recognize and promote the contributions that Americans of all ages and backgrounds are making through volunteer service, promoting civic participation in American society. Current members include Bob Dole, John Glenn, Sean Astin and Dixie Carter. The Council also presents the President's Volunteer Service Award.
